Social Tagging

- The objective of adding social data, is to enrich library data and improve information retrieval and relevance ranking of search results.

- Leveraging social data

No need for marc21 extension, better is to construct a "international repository" for additional social data, from which libraries can harvest social data to enrich their own system. We need a set internationally recognized set of rules, or a standard to exchange this additional information.

- With respect to the discussion of free tags versus recommended tags, we feel a del.icio.us like approach should work best. Suggestions, but no enforcement to use only those.

- Intentional data, such as circulation data, placed on a private "myLibrary" shelf, that kind of data should be used in library systems more often. To make recommendations and to use it in rankings of results pages.

- Web2.0 requirements are not yet at the top of the list of requirement for new library systems if the time arrives when new systems need to be aquired. However in the public library of Gent, it is very important so they will start soon with myDiscoveries from Aquabrowser.

- Articles are far more important in special and academic libraries, they need to be included in this new type of library content mangement systems.
